Recently installed the remote relay, wiring is pretty simple getting to the starter is a pain! We have an small access panel on the port side
of the engine, inside the galley cabinet. On later hull numbers this was enlarged. In our case the access opening was too small so I enlarged it using a laminate trimmer (small router) with an upward cutting spiral cutter. Set your
cutter depth so it just goes thru the material and have someone watch from the engine side so you don't hit anything. I mounted the relay up under the battery charger on the port bulkhead to the right of the raw water filter. I
made a new cover for the access opening using "starboard" material available from West Marine.
If you mount the relay like I did you will need to run a ground wire to one of the mounting screws on the relay. The
slip-on spade connector from the starter button needs to go to the spade connector wire on the new relay. The wiring harness from the factory I found to be too short to be of any use and made my own. Also the mount (piece of 3/16"
steel with two 1/2" holes and bolts) the factory supplied didn't fit anywhere, tossed it! |
